Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Attack Succumbs to Injuries
The female victim who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.
The victim, aged 34 years, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, just prior to 9 PM GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.
The suspect, 21, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, charged over the attack.
Originally charged with attempted murder but following the victim's passing charges were upgraded to murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
The force said officers would be in the downtown area through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.
Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who might have observed the accused, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.
Incident Location
The stabbing happened near the Bullring shopping centre, opposite the main entrance of New Street railway station.
Police said they were treating it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her shift around 10 PM on Friday.
She described the scene as extremely disorderly, adding that some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances around 9 PM.
"A lot of my colleagues take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised essentially, here in the city centre."
Ashley Birks, 25, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.
"It causes concern about my partner," he said.
"She doesn't drive and works at all of the big music venues... considering a totally random act [happened], understandably, it's terrible."
